The Mission
The mission of Our Lady of Perpetual Help School is to empower students to be spiritually, academically, socially and culturally prepared to meet the challenges of life. OLPH School seeks to guide the religious development of each student through evangelization, catechesis, and religious instruction.
Philosophy
Our Lady of Perpetual Help School is a Christ-centered, child focused Catholic elementary school celebrating over forty years of serving the educational needs of students in the East County of the Diocese of San Diego. Our educational program is directed toward the growth of the whole person so that each student may become a fully integrated human being and thus lead to a fuller understanding and appreciation of life in Christ, His Church and in society at large. In recognition that parents are the primary educators of their children, the role of the school community is to support, enhance and complement. Teachers serve not only as dedicated and qualified instructors, but they must lead in the creation of a Christian community in which the message of Christ is proclaimed in words and witness.
Our Staff
O.L.P.H. School is staffed by a dedicated lay faculty focused on the uniqueness of each child.
In addition to 9 grade level teachers, our staff includes a full time physical education teacher, art teachers, computer teachers, resource specialist, and day care coordinator. The faculty is well-qualified and credentialed. Each member is required to have an annual professional growth plan, and classroom teachers also renew catechetical certifications every three years. All faculty are encouraged to further their spiritual and professional development by attending conferences and workshops. The teachers utilize current research and trends in educational practices, by incorporating differentiated instructional methods to reach a multitude of learning styles.
The entire staff, from maintenance to administration, from pastoral team to parent volunteers, exemplifies the core of the mission statement and philosophy. (WASC Report 2004)
Our History
Our Lady of Perpetual Help School is a Catholic elementary school located in the community of Lakeside in the East County of San Diego.
Founded in 1961 as a parish school, then pastor Rev. James P. O’Donoghue invited the teaching order of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet to build a foundation of high academic standards and solid religious instruction.
Today, a dedicated lay staff and principal lead the school community.
Now serving regionally, O.L.P.H. offers a high-quality, Christ-centered education for the parish families of Guardian Angels (Santee), Queen of Angels (Alpine), Immaculate Heart of Mary (Ramona), Our Lady of Light (Descanso) and the Native American communities of Blessed Kateri (Barona and Viejas). In addition, Christian families from various denominations are welcome to join our school community.
For over 45 years, O.L.P.H. has continued this legacy to educate the mind, heart, and soul of today’s young students, preparing them to be the Christian leaders of tomorrow.
