OLPH believes that a student’s appearance has a direct effect on his/her attitude and behavior. The dress code has been designed so students understand that their manner of dress should be appropriate to the serious nature of academic study. All clothing must be neat, clean and free from tears and holes. Shirts must be buttoned and tucked in. All shorts and skirts must be knee length and students must wear authorized attire during P.E. The required uniform must be purchased at Dennis Uniforms.

 

SPECIFIC CLOTHING REQUIREMENTS FOR GIRLS:

Blouses and shirts
Plain white, short sleeve cotton or knit with collar and OLPH logo, both available at Dennis Uniform Company. Shirts must be free of logos (except school logo), decorations, or pins. In cold weather students may wear a white turtleneck UNDER the OLPH sweatshirt. The turtleneck may not be worn alone or underneath the polo shirt or blouse.

Jumpers &Skirts
K – 4: Dennis Uniform Jumper – Mayfair plaid.

5 – 8: Dennis Uniform Skirt – Mayfair plaid. Skirts must be knee length.

 Shorts & Skorts

Girls may wear navy blue Dennis Uniform shorts or skorts. Make sure the length on these is appropriate – knee length to a couple of inches above the top of the knee.

 

Slacks and Capri pants
Girls may also wear Dennis Uniform navy twill or stay press Dennis Uniform slacks and capri pants.

 Outerwear
All outerwear is considered part of the uniform. The only sweaters, sweatshirts, and jackets allowed on campus at anytime must be purchased at Dennis Uniforms. For inclement weather raincoats may be worn outside of the classroom.

 Shoes
Athletic shoes in solid colors only (black, navy or white) for all grade levels. Shoelaces should be white or match the color of the shoes. Shoelaces must be securely tied outside the shoes. No blinking lights, hiking boots or platform shoes. ON MASS DAYS girls are required to wear black, closed toe and heel dress shoes with a heel no higher than one inch.

Socks
Girls must wear white socks at all times with athletic shoes. Socks must cover the ankles. Navy blue or white tights or knee socks and natural colored hose can be worn on cold days. No glittered or sparkling tights.

 Hair
Hair must be neat and well groomed. No radical cut or style is acceptable; no coloring/bleaching/streaking of any kind is allowed. No hats are allowed on campus during the school day.

 Jewelry
Uniforms must be kept free of pins and decorations. On non-uniform dress days students may not wear excessive or unusually placed pieces of jewelry. The following jewelry is acceptable:

All : One chain at the neck; religious medal.

One pair of small, post type earrings.

7 & 8: Hoop earrings no larger than ½” in diameter.

No dangling earrings are acceptable.

 

Make-up
Make-up application is reserved for students in 7 th and 8 th grade only . Girls may wear light foundation, and clear or light colored lip-gloss. No blush, eye shadow, or mascara is allowed. Clear nail polish is acceptable for 7 th and 8 th graders. Inappropriate or excessive use of make-up will result in the loss of the privilege.

 P.E.Uniform
OLPH Logo T-shirts from Dennis Uniform. P. E. T-shirt should be worn with shorts on the day of P.E.

 Mass Day : K – 4 Uniform Jumper with uniform blouse. Uniform vest is optional.

5 – 8 Uniform Skirt with Uniform Blouse. Uniform vest and/or tie is optional.

Dress shoes, black, closed toe and heel dress shoes with a heel no higher than one inch.

Slacks
Boys must wear Dennis Uniform navy twill or stay press Dennis Uniform slacks or

and shorts navy blue Dennis Uniform shorts. Boys must wear clothing that fits them. Baggy shorts and pants are not acceptable. Waistbands must rest hip high. Plain black, brown or navy blue leather belts are required with slacks and shorts.

 Outerwear

No blinking lights, hiking boots or other “unusual” shoes. ON MASS DAYS boys must wear brown or black loafer or tie dress shoes.

Boys must wear white socks at all times with athletic shoes. Socks must show above the shoe tops.

 Hair
Hair must be neat and well groomed. No radical cut, style, or spiking is acceptable; no excessive hair gel is allowed; no coloring/bleaching/streaking of any kind is allowed. Boys’ hair may not extend below the top of the collar; boys may not have ponytails or braids. No hats are allowed on campus during the school day.

 Jewelry
One simple chain at the neck; religious medal. Boys may not wear earrings.

 P.E.Uniform
OLPH Logo T-shirts from Dennis Uniform. P.E. T-shirt should be worn with shorts on the day of P.E.

Mass Day:
Boys may wear Dennis Uniform pants only with white, collared, button front shirt (not a polo), with short or long sleeves.

5 – 8: Ties are mandatory.

K – 4 : Ties are optional.

Shoes: Brown or black loafer or tie dress shoes in good, clean condition.

 

OLPH uniforms must be purchased from Dennis Uniform Company or the PTG sponsored Used Uniform Rack.

Shirts and blouses are to be tucked into the waistband at all times.

Girls' skirts must be knee length and shorts are to be no shorter than two inches above the knees.

The OLPH jacket may be worn as part of the uniform. Non-uniform outerwear may not be worn at any time; however, raincoats may be worn to and from school on rainy days.

The school considers appropriate hair length and styling to be a matter of parental responsibility and urges all parents to keep their children's hair well groomed.In exceptional cases, the principal will inform parents as to the necessity of proper hairstyle. Neither boys nor girls may color their hair. Extreme haircuts, color streaking, "spiking", and boy's hair below the collar are not acceptable.

Makeup, jewelry, dangling earrings, nail polish, nail enhancements (acrylic nails) are not considered appropriate with the school uniform.

Girls may wear small and inconspicuous earrings only (no dangling or hoop earrings allowed). Earrings are not acceptable for boys at school or school-sponsored events.

In an emergency situation when your child cannot be in uniform, an explanatory note must be sent to the principal and teacher.

All uniform clothing worn to school, including shirts and blouses, should be indelibly marked with the student's name.

During the school year on certain days students have the privilege of attending school in the following clothing:


DRESSY DRESS-UP

Boys:

Uniform Trousers or dress slacks NO Jeans, Baggy pants or shorts. Collared, button front shirt Dress Shoes

Girls:

NON-UNIFORM (FREE) DRESS

Boys:

NO baggy pants, or cut-offs NO inappropriate words or pictures on shirts NO "muscle" shirts Neat jeans are okay NO sandals

Girls:

Tops/blouses/dresses must have sleeves & appropriate neckline NO excessively tight tops/blouses/dresses NO inappropriate words or pictures on shirts NO bare midriffs Skirts Knee top or longer Neat jeans are okay NO short-shorts Shoes with closed toes & heels NO heels over 1 inch high or platform shoes

SPIRIT DAY DRESS

On Designated Days

OLPH sponsored polo/T-shirt (Current Year Walk-A-Thon) Blue jean denim pants or shorts of proper length. NO cut-offs NO tattered jeans NO colored embroidery or designs, just simple blue jeans Uniform shorts or slacks can be worn instead of the blue jeans/shorts.

Parents will be notified in advance of these special days through the Family Letter or by other means such as a certificate. If there is a question regarding the clothing worn to school on these days, the decision of the principal as to what is acceptable dress for any student will be final. Those in violation of the dress policy will call their parents to bring appropriate clothing to school.
